To Join the Hull DNA
Research Project: Family Tree DNA provides
a link to the group order form where you are able to enter your order for a DNA
test kit without the need for the administrator to intercede. If your choice of
payment is by credit card, this link will take you to a secure web page so you
will be able to enter your information on a secure web site. The link is:
Family
Tree DNA/. The order form link has been
specifically coded for the Hull DNA Research Project. If you do not want to join
the Project to do a DNA test, please do not enter an order. It has been
specifically coded for serious minded genetic genealogy
researchers. By ordering your test
through the group and getting the special rate, it will be expected that you
sign the release form in the affirmative and by doing so acknowledge that your
DNA results will be displayed on the Hull DNA Research web page. For your
privacy, your test results will only be displayed by kit number. Your name or
contact address will not be added without your
permission. Hull DNA Research is a
history juxtaposition using traditional and genetic resources, placed
side-by-side to derive the fullest benefit of scientific and compositional
unity. In addition to the genetic results, the Project requires a complete lineage of the surname family being
tested, which would include an ancestral lineage with names, birth and death
dates and places, back to the oldest known documented
ancestor. Test results will vary
depending on the test (s) ordered. Persons considering the yDNA test should
begin with the 25 maker yDNA marker test, since it is with markers 13-25 which
likely proves if one is/is not related to an individual or to a group of Hulls
already tested. If the donor is transferring into the project from the National
Genographics Project, an upgraded to a 25 marker test is strongly
suggested. If you are doing the
mtDNA test, we request that you do the DNAPlus test. The HVR1 panel is liken to
12 markers, providing only deep, deep genetic information; not a relationship;
therefore, the HVR2 panel is where a sustainable maternal line connection can be
determined, and is analogous to the yDNA 25 marker test.
There are now many companies offering DNA testing, and the number continues to grow as interest increases in the use of DNA for genealogical research. Unfortunately, there are some companies that need to be avoided, promising things they can't deliver, not providing any customer service and not performing valid tests. Samplings of correspondence directed to the various DNA email forums will show there are many companies that do not deliver on their promises or actually provide an inferior service. There are also issues with which portions of the DNA are tested and the way the DNA marker data is interpreted. Since the beginning of the former Hull Surname yDNA Study, the project continues to use the best and the first genetic genealogy DNA testing company - Family Tree DNA. The Hull Project has no desire to promote one company over another. We make no profit from any part of the Hull DNA Research volunteer project.
