Welcome to the Hull DNA Research Project A suggestion to
use genetic genealogy to solve one person’s Hull family ancestry mystery was
proposed in January 2001. This scientific application to traditional genealogy
has become the greatest toolbox for genealogist since the advent of the lineage.
Participant numbers continue to steadily grow, slowly but surely. When the original
Hull Surname yDNA Study began the journey to find ancestral relationships
through this new and exciting study of DNA, there was no crystal ball to know
where it would lead. We have watched 156 donor tests returned with anticipation;
seen the joy of confirming a Hull family line, or breaking down the barriers
that have plagued donors to find a pathway to their roots. We have reached some
highs in excitement, and we have experienced the disappointment when a test
comes in as an "Orphan." In the seven years
since the first surname Hull yDNA test, the Study has been renamed to the Hull DNA Research Project, it has
verified numerous genealogies, redirected several Hulls to their true ancestral
lines, presented data that has the potential to correct age old errors in family
lines, found new cousins for Hulls to share their interest and pursuit in
defining Hull lines of descent and added deep, deep ancestral mtDNA
testing. The Hull DNA
Research Project has to be a group endeavor, where it can be a synergy of ideas
and thoughts, which can scientifically confirm older, unscientific observations
and assumptions. It is not a one person show. Many have jumped
in to sort out their data and have poured countless hours of research into
finding the key, but have come up short of making absolute determinations.
Genetic genealogy research can and does give us the promise of setting lines of
descent straight. The answer may be elusive until a Hull male becomes involved
and suddenly steps up to the DNA plate and at that time an age old mystery may
be solved. The dynamics of DNA testing is very straightforward in that the more
Hulls that participate, the more valuable the Hull DNA data and classical
genealogy will become. ·
The Hull DNA Research Project is an International Project that
welcomes Hulls (surname variations) from all parts of the
world. ·
Membership in the Hull Family Association is not required to
participate in the Project. ·
The purpose of the Project is to aid in finding the paternal
lineages of Hull families. ·
The Project is open to any male who believes he is descended from a
Hull family line. ·
A male participant must submit a pedigree/lineage of his paternal
lineage. ·
It is not necessary to prove your lineage, since that is the
purpose of the Project. ·
Proofs, if available, should be submitted with the lineage.
Questionable generations should be noted. ·
Women may join the Project to add maternal lineage information for
deep, deep ancestral research, or they may sponsor a Hull male participant.
·
A donor, or a representative, must submit his DNA sample to Family
Tree DNA (FTDNA) using the name of the Hull Project. To learn more about this
click on the “Join” link. ·
Individuals that have tested their yDNA with one of the following
companies: Relative Genetics, DNA Heritage, Oxford Ancestors, and Gene Base may
take advantage of a “below cost” offer until 15 August 2008 and transfer their
results to FTDNA, the Hull DNA Research lab. This provides access to the most
comprehensive yDNA database in the world. Clicking on the
"Join" link will take
you to the Hull Project at Family Tree DNA (FTDNA) where you can order your
test. The project administrator will contact you and provide you with an
electronic join key. If you have any
questions about DNA testing, please write the Project Administrator by clicking
on info@hull.familydna.net.
